If you are a natural leader with extensive knowledge of both the construction and business fields, my client is interested in bringing you onto their team. Ideal candidate needs to feel comfortable managing all on site field operations, creating schedules and planning all aspects of the construction project, both technical and practical. The Superintendent will be the key point of contact for overseeing the entire project and ensuring it does incur issues or delays. Ideal candidate will think quickly on their toes and have advanced conflict resolution skills.

Job Responsibilities

  • Confer with other supervisors, gathering information about all aspects of a construction project in order to get a firm understanding of progress
  • Relay information to supervisors clearly and quickly for them to make adjustments in any area of the construction project
  • Create a plan before the construction project begins, taking all aspects into consideration, hiring necessary contractors and overlooking blueprints
  • Design a schedule for the project, ensuring it is both reasonable and ambitious, then taking measures to keep construction on schedule
  • Obtain necessary permits and licenses prior to the beginning of the project and foresee any other legal requirements
  • Inspect progress to ensure all work is completed following mandated building codes and policies, as well as environmental regulations, making note of errors or violations and giving instructions to correct them
  • Meet with clients, providing them with information about the progress of construction, taking measures to quell any concerns, answer inquiries and give updated schedules

Education - Skills - Knowledge - Qualifications & Experience:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Bachelors degree in construction related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of relevant construction experience
  • Current knowledge and ability to apply relevant local, state, and federal rules and regulations, including OSHA
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and engineering drawings, financial reports, and legal documents
  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing and to present information to top management, owners, subcontractors, and other outside entities
  • Basic math skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Professional attitude and appearance
  • People management skills
  • Leadership and management skills
  • Willingness to travel and/or relocate preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Works significant portion of day outside on construction site
  • Must be able to stand for long periods and work at heights
  • Must be able to work in all types of weather (including exposure to extremes of hot and cold) and in all kinds of work environments
  • Able to lift/move up to 70 pounds
  • Able to stand; crawl; climb ladders & stairs; balance; stoop and kneel; etc (physical activities associated with construction sites)
  • Must be able to withstand for long periods of time noise, fumes, airborne particles, etc. associated with construction sites
  • Use of hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls
  • Valid driver's license
